Showing Images From Virtue

Solo Show of New Paintings, October – November, 2005

Jonathan LeVine Gallery, NYC, NY

Artist’s Statement (In Retrospect):

My second show of 2005 was called “Virtue”. It was to be my first show in NYC at Jonathan Levine’s new space. Again, I was determined to make a show that made a statement about the state of the art world so I did a show that was almost totally made up of abstract paintings that were clearly decorative. The paintings were all framed in a very traditional colonial style that looked like it was straight out of Better Homes & Gardens from 1950. Nobody saw the irony, though and once again, in hind-sight I see that I didn’t make the point strongly enough. I ended up with a show of pretty paintings rather than a show that pointed out the art world’s resistance to craft and aesthetic beauty.
